Hi, I’m Rebecca.
I’m a technologist and researcher, making work at the intersection of software, art, and storytelling. Currently I am a 2017-2018 Ford-Mozilla Open Web Fellow at Human Rights Watch researching how individuals use encryption and security online.
Holding a master’s degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP), I spend a lot of time thinking about how social platforms collect and monetize data about their users using automated or opaque computational processes. My graduate research on Facebook culminated in a thesis defense presentation.
Before graduate school, I built interactive experiences at tech companies, collected stories for independent multimedia projects, and studied Arabic and MENA politics in Cairo and Jerusalem.
